Donating to HBA Support
Thank you so much interest in donating to Hereditary Brain Aneurysm Support. Every donation, no matter how small, enables us to:

-
Create better awareness of brain aneurysms and hereditary risks every where we can.
-
Help people and families impacted by brain aneurysms by providing support, vital specialist resources and balanced information to help them live well and make informed choices.
-
Support world-leading research studies into brain aneurysms, drive our own research initiatives, and work with medical and research experts to improve understanding of prevalence, risk and prevention and care.

Together, we can make a meaningful impact on the lives of those affected, change families' stories from generational devastation to hope - and save lives. Your donation will help us achieve our mission, and we’re grateful.

Gifts in wills or legacy giving
Far more people than we know are lost to brain aneurysms, with generations of families scarred by the devastation of a sudden and shocking loss of a loved one. You can create a lasting impact by including HBA Support in your will or estate plans. Your legacy gift ensures our work continues for generations to come.

Leaving gifts or bequests through wills

A charitable bequest is a gift made in a will to a charity. It allows people to support causes they care about and leave a lasting legacy. Bequests can be of various forms, including specific sums of money, assets, or a percentage of the estate.

Bequests to UK-registered charities are exempt from Inheritance Tax (IHT). If 10% or more of an estate is left to charity, the IHT rate on the remainder may also be reduced, helping to reduce the overall tax burden on an estate, potentially benefiting both the charity and other beneficiaries.

Types of bequests:
-
Fixed Amount: A specific sum of money is donated to the charity.
-
Specific Asset: A particular asset, like property or shares, is left to the charity.
-
Percentage of Estate: A percentage of the estate's remaining value is donated after other gifts have been made.

Life insurance gifts
In the UK, you can designate a charity as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy in your will, or by directly naming the HBA Support as the beneficiary when the policy is set up. This allows the proceeds of the policy to be paid directly to us upon the policyholder's death, bypassing inheritance tax.
Retirement plan assets

You can donate assets held within your retirement plan, like a pension, to a charity, and it can be a tax-efficient way to give. Specifically, you can designate a charity as a beneficiary to receive your pension lump sum after your death, which may be tax-free depending on your age at death and whether you have any dependants. Alternatively, you can donate assets directly to a charity during your lifetime through methods like Payroll Giving or by donating land, property, or shares.
Donor advised funds

DAFs are used by individuals, families, trusts, and corporations to streamline and enhance their charitable giving. They are a popular choice for those who want to make a significant impact, receive tax benefits, and maintain control over their charitable giving.

Benefits of Using a DAF:
-
Streamlined Giving: DAFs can make the process of charitable giving easier and more efficient, saving donors time and effort.
-
Flexibility: Donors can give now and grant later, allowing them to adjust their giving strategies as needed.
-
Impact: DAFs can help donors maximize their charitable impact by providing a platform for giving and grant making.
-
Tax Advantages: Donors receive tax benefits for their contributions and can potentially avoid capital gains tax on certain asset donations.
