Take on the Hike For Hope 3 Peaks Challenge and raise vital funds to help us improve and save lives,  making a meaningful impact for those who need us most!

Are you ready for an adventure that makes a difference?

Join us for our Hike For Hope Three Peaks Challenge, a fantastic 16-mile hike across the stunning Leicestershire landscapes of Charnwood Forest, taking in the county’s three highest and most iconic hills.

The Leicestershire Three Peaks is often described as a mini version of the famous Yorkshire Three Peaks  a rewarding but achievable adventure that can be completed in a single day. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or just looking for a new challenge, it’s the perfect way to push yourself while enjoying some of the best scenery in the East Midlands.

Every penny raised will help us improve and save the lives of patients diagnosed with brain aneurysms, which are  more common than you think -  in fact, it’s estimated that 1 in 30 people have one—that’s over two million people in the UK alone. And every year, more than 5,000 lives are shattered by a sudden rupture, often without warning, with 4 families a week left devastated by the loss of a loved one from a hereditary aneurysm.

Lace up your boots, gather your friends, and come and be part of the challenge!

16 miles. Three peaks. One unforgettable day.

Help us raise essential funds to support for people impacted with brain aneurysms and families that have a hereditary risk.

Route

Leicestershire Three Peaks Hike, Charnwood Forest

A rewarding circular hill walk through the rugged landscapes of Charnwood Forest, linking the three highest points in Leicestershire. Starting near Beacon Hill Lower Car Park, the iconic Old John hill in Bradgate Park, with sweeping views across the deer park and surrounding countryside.

The next climb takes you to Bardon Hill, the highest natural point in Leicestershire, offering wide views across the Midlands before the route returns through forest tracks and quiet trails to the heathland summit of Beacon Hill before heading back to the starting point.

Length

16 miles (26 km). Approx. 6-8 hours of walking

Terrain

The route follows a mixture of well-established trails, woodland paths, open hillside tracks and sections of countryside footpaths across the varied landscapes of Charnwood Forest. There will also be a few short sections on quiet roads where paths connect between trails and villages along the route. Walkers will pass beneath gnarled oak trees, cross rocky ground formed from some of the oldest rocks in Britain, and tackle steady climbs to each of the three summits.

As the route approaches Bradgate Park, the landscape opens out into the historic deer park, where you may spot the park’s famous herds of red and fallow deer grazing across the hillsides beneath Old John.

The terrain reflects Charnwood’s distinctive character, with craggy hills, dry stone walls and wide open views. Underfoot conditions are generally good but can be uneven and muddy in places depending on the weather. Keep an eye out for wildlife along the way buzzards are often seen circling on the updrafts rising from the hills.

Difficulty

Moderate to challenging. While the route follows established paths and requires no technical climbing, the 16-mile distance and cumulative climbs to each of the three summits make this a rewarding endurance hike. Participants should have a good level of fitness and be comfortable walking for several hours over varied terrain including woodland trails, rocky hillside paths and open countryside tracks.

Travel

Participants will be expected to make their own way to the event, where we will be meeting at a designated start point at 8.00 am for 8.30 am start. Parking is available. Please consider car sharing where possible.

Safety

All our Mountain Leaders are first aid trained and have been through rigorous training. The event is insured through HBA Support and details are available on request. A risk assessment is prepared, and participants will be fully briefed before the hike.

This is a group guided hike, and participants are expected to remain with the Mountain Leaders throughout the event. It is not a race; the focus is on ensuring everyone completes the challenge safely while raising money and awareness for the charity.

Making the most out of your fundraising

There are 2 simple ways to fundraise:

1. Direct people to our Hike Fundraising Page

2. Simply send people to our general donation page.

Alternatively, if you want to share your story and reasons for taking part, you can create your own Local Giving page, more information on how to do this can be found here.

Spread the word
Tell your friends and family about the run via Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.  It can sometimes feel uncomfortable asking people for sponsorship, but letting as many people as possible know what we’re doing is the fastest way to raise awareness. Feel free to share any of our social posts across your social media. . Please use the hashtag #hbashikeforhope25 and tag in HBA Support (Facebook @HBASupport, Instagram @hba_support, LinkedIn @hbasupport).
Break it down
If the thought of asking for a donation feels daunting, why not break it down and offer colleagues or friends a fun way of chipping in.  Perhaps you could make a list of every mile you’ll be walking and ask your supporters to sponsor a mile of your journey.
Keep everyone updated
Keep everyone updated: Keep your supporters up to date with your training progress and fundraising success.  Let everyone know when you’re halfway to your fundraising target, or if you’ve just completed a challenging training hike.  Updates often jog the memory of busy people who had been meaning to donate but not got around to it yet. Don’t forget to tag us in your posts.
Don’t forget your wider community

Often donations come in from wonderful, unexpected sources.  We’ve known donations come from local corner shops and sponsorship from local businesses.  Perhaps your children want to get behind you and organise a cake sale at their school, or do their own mini-sponsored walk?

Ask at work

Many employers have an employee giving scheme, or a chosen charity.  Could you let your company know about us and what we’re doing?  And of course, don’t forget to circulate the Local Giving link around the whole-office email thread!
